Everybody understands logical solutions, no matter what language they speak.
Whether it is new production or repair ― Mittel works together with its customers to develop the most effective solution for each individual project. Once the district energy system comes online, Mittel can provide comprehensive maintenance services using the Stateview System II. Deviations are revealed at an early stage, allowing for the systematic monitoring of subcontractors’ guarantees. If damage should occur, Mittel is able to repair it without having to take the network offline.

Sture Sikström,
department manager for network maintenance and network construction in the Heating business segment at Umeå Energi
“We use Mittel’s method both for new production and repairs. This is the best solution for us since we require that the joints in our district heating system are welded. This improves their durability and allows us to perform pressure tests and ensure the joints hold before being brought online. Competing welding systems are often brand-specific for a culvert supplier and the systems with heat shrink joints don’t have the same lifespan. With Mittel’s method, we can repair joints in pipes without taking them offline unless we need to cut them to put on a cuff. This method is a bit more expensive than others but since it is more durable with less damage and repairs in the future, we have calculated that it pays for itself in the long run. It’s also an advantage that Mittel is located in Umeå. They’ve been very good at adapting to the fluid schedules we have when we are building in several places in town.”

Rolf Öberg,
Head of district heating distribution at Piteå Energi
"We have had problems with leaking outer joint casings for many years. Now we’ve discovered that Mittel has a very good joint that we now use for all our repairs. Mittel is also very flexibility and they can make the joints as long as we need them. That’s a huge advantage for us. Simply put, they’ve been the best alternative for us. This is also true when installing new lines. In those cases, we use Mittel joints 80 per cent of the time. That’s a serious joint, maybe a bit more expensive compared to simpler types of joints but if we are putting in a culvert, we naturally don’t want problems with the joints for the next 30-40 years. So in the long run, it’s worth to build with quality. In addition, Mittel works with our local contractors here in Piteå – Fjärrtek. They are certified and approved by Mittel and have access to Mittel’s mobile TSC® wagon and its patented joint equipment. That’s a great advantage since we have a long and good relationship with Fjärrtek. This is perfect for us since we can have a joint put in place the exact day it’s needed.”
Hans Carenmark,
Distribution manager at Enköpings Värmeverk
"Mittel performs repairs on our culvert system. Previously, we were forced to both remove lines from service and exchange complete culvert parts including the steel pipes for these types of repairs. Now we can keep the system operating throughout the work. Mittel cleans away older insulation layers that have been damaged by moisture because of old, leaking joints, replaces the plastic pipe covers on long stretches and places new insulation in a way that no one else has been able to do before. That’s a huge advantage. They can also build both curved pipes and branches on site in the field, which use to be impossible. They’ve also developed a strategy together with the excavating contractor and StateView, which takes care of the control system for maintenance planning, so that the excavation ditches are continually and conveniently refilled as the culvert parts have been repaired. That’s a requirement today.”

Leif Algotsson,
District heating installer at Mittel
”Over the years In’ve been involved on many jobs where we have succeeded where competitors have failed. Our small and convenient tools are a major advantage. We can reach every possible spot. We also have all our tools with us on the small wagon – from the power supply to the extruder and cutters. What is most impressive though with our technique is its repeatability. If we do a thousand seams, the last is exactly like the first.”
