How many miles of district-heating pipes are there in your town? Pipes represent major investments that have to bring a return over a long period. Hopefully they are safe underground.

The cost of case jointing is a small part of the total investment in a district‑heating network – according to the Swedish District Heating Association’s calculations between 5 and 10 per cent. Even so, the joints are the part of the project that more than anything else determines how long the pipe will last. Ninety per cent of all damage to pre-insulated district‑heating pipes is because of leaking joints, according to the Swedish District Heating Association.
